The program

Lil Devils is a fun introduction to basketball aimed at improving motor skills, social skills and self-confidence. Each 1 hour session is broken down into 2 parts consisting 15-20 minutes of skill based training followed by a 30-40 minute modified rules game on lowered 8ft rings whereby referees serve as on-the-floor coaches. This league runs for approximately 9 weeks during or the length of the school Term. A new Lil Devils season will commence with each school term. Once a player has finished building his skills in the Lil Devils program, he or she will be ready to move up to the Blue Devils.

Our purpose

Lil Devils is the official junior game development program for the Blue Devils Basketball Club. Our Lil Devils Development program, which was originally aimed for beginners aged 5 to 8, has been extended to include any beginner boy or girl aged 5-12.  Lil Devils is a fun introduction to basketball aimed at improving motor skills, social skills and self confidence.

The program provides children aged 5 – 12 with a supportive and fun environment to learn the grass roots of basketball, and fosters a lifetime of involvement in the sport.  The program consists of a mixture of warm up exercises, skill activities, modified games and teaches children the important values of respect, good sportsmanship, teamwork and  discipline.

our schedule

Lil Devils participants get 2 sessions per week running every Sunday and Tuesday for one hour. The session is lead by Head Coach and Program Coordinator, Nathan Freeman.  Nathan has a team of junior coaches supporting him to maintain a 1:10 maximum coach to player ratio.

Sunday sessions start at 8am, 9am, and 10am and players are notified upon registration which group they should attend. Tuesday sessions start at 4:10pm (5-8yrs old) and 5:00pm (9-12yrs old).  The sessions are broken down into 30min of skills and 30 minutes modified game. All sessions are at the Caroline Springs Leisure Centre

Development pathway

Engagement and Participation

Lil Devils program is designed to help foster children’s interest and engagement in sport from an early age.  Continued skill development and enjoyable basketball experiences will lead to far greater retention rates and counteract the drop off in participation in the secondary school years.

Performance

Experienced coordinators can quickly identify talent and potential in our players who may then advance t our Blue Devils program. Those identified can also be recommended for more elite programs delivered by our camps and clinic partner, Point Blank Period, a leading USA Skills Development Program.
